Ten years ago this week, I took this video of the Space Shuttle flying in to Dulles & the Smithsonian.

No, it wasn’t flying itself, it was piggyback on a 747 (with two escort Jets).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9Nke-n9WnA

Full text posting I wrote of the posting:

On April 17, 2012, The Space Shuttle Discovery landed at Dulles Airport, Sterling, Virginia, for permanent display at the National Air and Space Museum annex, the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center. I shot this video about a mile and half short of the runway, in a parking lot in Chantilly, VA using my iPhone 4S. Everywhere, the traffic had come to a stop, as people watched the 747 carrying the shuttle, and a T-38 escort jet flew overhead for 45 minutes. This is the second time the shuttle flew by this exact path, moments later it landed at the airport. The first time it flew by, I never got a chance to take a photo, since I was just standing there open mouthed, watching it soar by.  The large crowd let up a big cheer, and then started leaving. Moments later we heard on the radio, that the first pass was just to observe, and the jet was coming around for another one. I moved to this less crowded position, and took this video. According to the radio, they had to land due to low fuel, not of the 747, but of the escort jet.
